Clem-Higginbotham

Prof. Clement Higginbotham is a senior lecturer and principal investigator in the Department of Polymer, Mechanical & Design. He founded the Materials Research Institute in 2005 of which he was the director until 2015. His research interests include, the development of biomaterials, the development of polymers for drug delivery and tissue engineering applications, the development of medical device coatings, the development of nutraceutical delivery systems, hydrogel and smart material synthesis and characterisation, and organic synthesis. He has secured €8.5M to date in research funding from 46 grants, both national and international. He is a principal investigator in the Applied Polymer Technologies Enterprise Ireland Gateway (APT Ireland) for which he secured €1.2M for its foundation as PI. Prof. Higginbotham has supervised 33 PhD students and 7 MSc students to graduation, and has supervised and mentored 8 postdoctoral researchers, and 1 Marie Curie Fellow. He is currently supervising 6 PhD students and 2 MSc students. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed journal publications, books and book chapters and has almost 5,000 citations. Prof. Higginbotham has numerous ongoing industrial and academic collaborations.
