Teresa Brown

Dr Teresa Brown is a lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Health at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), where she teaches and researches within the Department of Social Sciences. A qualified social care worker with a Doctorate in Childhood Studies from Queen’s University Belfast, her academic work focuses on relationship-based practice, residential childcare, organisational culture, and the professional identity of social care workers. Her key areas of interest include supporting young people at risk and creating meaningful space for the voice of service users in research and practice. She has published widely, co-editing the core Irish textbook Social Care Work: An Introduction for Students in Ireland and the Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers. Her research—such as Relationship-based practice in a culture of fear”—explores the emotional, relational, and organisational dimensions of front-line practice. Dr Brown also contributes to national sectoral development through her involvement with the Irish Association of Social Care Educators, supporting ongoing professionalisation across the field.
