Seán is the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology on the Midlands Campus of TUS. His role is focused on the academic and operational leadership of an agile and innovative Faculty delivering programmes from level 6 to 10 on the NFQ through full-time, blended, online and apprenticeship modes and co-ordinating educational programme collaboration with international partner universities, regional stakeholders and his academic colleagues. Sean’s background is in polymer materials science and engineering. He is a graduate of Athlone IT, obtaining both a BEng (Hons) in Polymer Engineering (2002) and a PhD in Polymer Engineering (2007). Dr Lyons has extensive experience in the manufacturing sector having worked in various multinational companies including Perlos Oyj, The Tech Group and Bausch & Lomb before returning to academia. Seán is also a Principal Investigator at the Applied Polymer Technologies Technology Gateway where his research interests focus primarily on the processing of polymer materials for applications in the biomedical and advanced manufacturing industries. Dr Lyons has managed a large range of fundamental and industrially applied funded projects focusing on the processing of polymer materials utilising extrusion, injection moulding, additive manufacturing and downstream post-processing and automation.
