Dr. Michael Ryan is currently a Lecturer in Biosciences at the Technological University of The Shannon (TUS). Michael gained a PhD from the University of Limerick looking at the bacterium Ralstonia pickettii, which can grow in nutrient limited environments including purified water. He has undertaken several Postdoctoral research projects.
Michael’s current research interests included bacterial growth in purified water systems, environmental microbiology, mobile genetic elements (with a special interest in Intgrating Conjugative Elements) and antimicrobial resistance spread in the environment. His main teaching interests are in microbiology and biotechnology with a special focus on upstream and downstream processing in the biopharma industry.
