Deirdre is currently working as Programme Director and Lecturer in Applied Psychology at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) on the Athlone campus. Deirdre completed an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology which focused on health and well-being research. Deirdre then completed a PhD in Psychology and Health at NUI Galway focusing on adjustment in prostate cancer.
Following her PhD, Deirdre worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Dublin City University and University of Galway focusing on the self-management of chronic conditions.
In DCU, Deirdre worked across three funded programmes of research (H2020, Science Foundation Ireland and Ambient Assisted Living) focusing on health behaviour change, eHealth and chronic illness.
While in the University of Galway, Deirdre project managed the Health Research Board funded ‘D1 Now’ study which includes the development, feasibility and piloting of a complex intervention to improve outcomes for young adults with type 1 diabetes in Ireland.
Deirdre’s research interests include intervention design, public and patient involvement, qualitative research and eHealth.
