Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has kicked off its third annual Research Week, themed “Sustainable Research in a Sustainable World.”
This year’s event marks the university’s most extensive Research Week to date, highlighting the vibrant and dynamic research happening at TUS.
Held across the Limerick campuses, a key focus of this year’s Research Week is the emphasis on industry collaboration within the region.
From research that focuses on understanding the impact of menopausal symptoms on women’s health and designing lifestyle interventions to support them, to a project identifying new compounds for treating Hodgkin lymphoma, as well as research that explores the ways to make use of e-scooters and e-bikes safer – the week will showcase a variety of innovative projects.
One of the flagship initiatives, the TUS RISE Programme, exemplifies TUS commitment by bridging the gap between academia and industry. The programme is designed to support enterprise-driven research projects that address real-world challenges, deliver practical solutions and deepen societal engagement.
President of TUS, Professor Vincent Cunnane, who launched the event said;“This will be our most extensive Research Week to date here at TUS. We are delighted to showcase the diverse range of research initiatives that not only advance knowledge but also contribute to the economic and social well-being of our region. These initiatives highlight TUS’s dedication to delivering impactful, forward-thinking solutions across multiple sectors, ensuring that research outcomes benefit society. It is a testament to our university’s dedication to sustainable research and industry collaboration.”
Commenting on the event, Vice President of Research, Development and Innovation at TUS, Dr. Liam Brown said: “Fantastic work has been put in by all of Postgraduate Research students and RUN-EU partners who have participated with posters and presentations. Thank you to our collaborators, industry partners, the TUS Research and Graduate School team and our funders – the Higher Education Authority, Southern Regional Assembly, Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine, European Commission and Enterprise Ireland and Research Ireland for making this week happen.”
TUS RISE is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-27.
