The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) is celebrating the exceptional achievements of its apprentices and students at the recent World Skills Ireland 2024 competition.
Three TUS graduates, Frank McManus, Brett Adams, and Keri Long secured top honours in their respective categories. Frank McManus clinched the top award, the coveted silver medal, in the Plumbing category, further solidifying TUS Athlone Campus’ reputation for excellence in plumbing education.
Keri Long, a student on the BA in Business Beauty and Spa Management at the Moylish Campus, was the overall winner of the silver medal in the Beauty Therapy category.
Brett Adams, a motor mechanic working for Morrison BMW, captured top honours also with the silver medal in the Automotive Technology category. A graduate of TUS’s motor programmes, Brett completed his phase 4 on the Athlone Campus and his phase 6 on the Moylish Campus.
Beyond these two victories, TUS had a strong representation across multiple categories. Patrick Flanagan narrowly missed out on the top prize in carpentry, but demonstrated exceptional skill and is shortlisted as a candidate for the World Skills competition next year. Paul Buston also competed in the Plumbing category, showcasing his expertise throughout the competition.
In addition, TUS had three finalists in the Heavy Goods Vehicles competition, David Auld, Dirk Leimlehner, and Killian Naughton. While TUS did not secure a silver medal in this category, their participation demonstrates the university’s commitment to providing comprehensive vocational training across various sectors.
TUS’s impressive performance at World Skills Ireland 2024 underscores its commitment to delivering high-quality vocational education and training. The university’s ability to produce world-class talent in fields such as plumbing, automotive technology, heavy goods vehicles, and carpentry is a testament to the experienced faculty, and supportive learning environment at TUS.
