Student entrepreneurs are being given the opportunity to turn ideas into reality this summer while receiving a €4,000 stipend through this year’s Student Inc Programme.

Students from The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), University of Limerick (UL), and Mary Immaculate College (MIC) are being encouraged to take part in Student Inc., a transformative summer accelerator programme designed to help turn business ideas into reality.

Funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Student Inc. offers expert mentoring, hands-on workshops, and access to an extensive network of innovators, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals.

The programme provides a platform for first year undergraduates to PhD students to explore their ideas, develop business concepts or expand existing projects. Student Inc. is open to students from all backgrounds and disciplines.

Gillian Barry, Head of Innovation & Enterprise at TUS, says:
Innovation and entrepreneurship are at the heart of shaping the future. Student Inc. offers students the opportunity to develop the skills, mindset, and connections needed to create solutions, build impactful ventures, and thrive in an ever-evolving world. This programme provides the foundation to turn potential into reality and take advantage of emerging opportunities,”

Dr Maeve Liston, Director of Enterprise and Community Engagement at MIC, adds, “This programme is about more than just business; it’s about building confidence, learning new skills, and meeting people who can support and inspire you along the way. It also plays a crucial role in developing the capacity for problem-solving and innovation, which are essential in addressing societal challenges and driving positive change.”

Dr Briga Hynes, Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship, Kemmy Business School at UL, says, “If you’ve ever thought about doing something with your ideas, this is your chance. Student Inc. gives you the space, resources, and connections to make it happen. It’s a great way to test your idea, whether it’s a project, a piece of research, or something outside of university that you are working on, ensure it meets real needs, and refine your business model to make it work.”

This year Student Inc. is piloting sector-specific training to better support students in different industries. As part of this initiative, a Creative Industries stream will be available for students in fields such as craft, design, media, and the arts, ensuring they receive tailored mentorship and workshops while remaining fully integrated within the broader Student Inc. Programme.

Applications can be made via www.studentinc.ie before 31st March 2025.
