Renowned Irish Climate Activist to speak at TUS Green Week.
Climate Activist and Architect Duncan Stewart is just one of the guest speakers who will address hundreds of students and staff at this year’s TUS Green Week symposium.
The symposium forms part of the University’s Green Week which aims to highlight the sustainability initiatives being undertaken across TUS campuses.
The week-long multi-campus event provides an opportunity for students and staff to engage in environment education, and with experts on global challenges and environmental practices.
Launching Green Week, TUS President Professor Vincent Cunnane said: “I am thrilled to kick off our annual Green Week. At this year’s launch, we had the privilege of hosting environmental journalist John Gibbons, who delivered an insightful lecture on ‘The Everything Emergency.’ This is just one of the many engaging talks and workshops happening across our campuses. I strongly encourage both staff and students to participate in these crucial discussions and activities focused on climate action and sustainability.
“At TUS, we are deeply committed to sustainability and climate action. Our initiatives span across all campuses, aiming to promote sustainable practices and foster a culture of environmental responsibility. Green Week provides a platform for our community to learn, engage, and take meaningful action towards a greener future.”
In addition to the guest lectures, Green Week will feature a variety of interactive workshops, panel discussions, and exhibitions, with a demonstration by Animal Magic Wildlife on the Thurles Campus. On Thursday March 6th, at the Coonagh Campus, Joanne Begley, social care worker, author, and death doula, will discuss her experiences in supporting people at the end of life, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in all aspects of life, including end-of-life care.
Other speakers to take to the stage during the wrap-up symposium include Charlene Hurley from Cycle Up and Zimbabwean climate activist Nomalanga Dube. The event will be available to join online as well in-person on the TUS Athlone Campus this Thursday March 6th.
Green Week at TUS aims to be an inspiring and educational event, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability and encouraging the TUS community to take meaningful action towards a greener future.
