Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has announced it will host the 10th edition of Italian Design Day on March 24, 2026, marking the first time the event has been held in Limerick.

The event, titled “In Conversation with Ico Migliore,” is part of a worldwide initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This year’s theme, “RE-DESIGN: Regenerating spaces, objects, ideas, relationships,” explores how design acts as a transformative tool for social and environmental responsibility.

The event will see world-renowned Italian architect and designer Ico Migliore joined in dialogue by experts from both LSAD and the University of Limerick (UL).

Dean of LSAD and Director of Cultural Engagement at TUS, Anthony Caleshu, commented: “We are incredibly excited to welcome Ico Migliore to LSAD for this event. To host Italian Design Day for the first time in Limerick is a testament to the city’s growing reputation as a global hub for creativity. This collaboration between TUS and UL reflects our core value of partnership, and we are thrilled to open our doors to a dialogue that bridges international expertise with our local wealth of knowledge. It is a passionate celebration of how design can truly regenerate our communities.”

The conversation will delve into the future of “regenerative” design—moving beyond simple sustainability to materials and spaces that actively improve their environment. Discussion topics include the integration of AI in product design, bio-digital “living” surfaces, and the role of 3D printing in modern craftsmanship.

Honorary Consul Gabriella Caponi, who will moderate the event, said: “I am delighted to moderate this event at LSAD to celebrate Italian Design Day 2026. It is especially encouraging to see the collaboration between TUS and UL in a conversation with Professor Migliore on the theme of regeneration—an issue that is so topical today. This event highlights the remarkable wealth of knowledge and creativity that exists here in the Mid-West region.”

The event will be held in the LSAD Gallery in Limerick School of Art & Design, TUS Clare Street Campus, beginning at 2pm and is open to the public, free of charge.
