Manual handling of loads means any transporting or supporting of a load by one or more employees and includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving a load, which, by reason of its characteristics, are of unfavourable ergonomic conditions, involving risk, particularly of back injury, to employees.
Where it is necessary for staff on the Midlands Campus to perform management directed Manual Handling activities, then these activities must be risk assessed and the resulting control measures implemented.
The documentation linked below will support both management and staff ensuring that their local manual handling activities comply with the TUS H&S policies and procedures.
