My Story of Re-Inventing Myself by Being an International Student

By Akash Sinha

Akash is one of our Global Student Ambassador studying MSc Business Analytics at TUS. Currently, he works as an Assistant Officer with the TUS Global Student Experience Team.

TUS Global Limerick-0717

When you’ve spent 7+ years working in one of India’s fastest-growing companies, solving real business problems at scale, you begin to feel like you’ve seen it all. But that’s also when you ask: “What next?”

I’m Akash Deep Sinha, formerly a Senior Business Analyst at Zomato, and now pursuing my MSc in Business Analytics at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) in Limerick, Ireland. I always had this itch to understand how things work at a global level, how data-driven decisions shape strategy in multi-billion dollar companies, how businesses scale responsibly across countries, and how analytics can drive not just performance, but vision. I wasn’t just looking to earn a Master’s degree, I wanted to unlearn, relearn, and grow beyond the playbook I knew.

Why I Chose TUS (And Why It Worked)

I wanted an university that emphasized hands-on learning, modern toolsets, and real-world application. TUS offered just that. The Business Analytics curriculum didn’t just teach me SQL or R or Predictive Modelling or Business Strategy, it encouraged me to rethink problem statements, sharpen my storytelling, and approach data with a critical business lens.

What stood out was the accessibility of the faculty folks like Dr. Matthew Horrigan, Dr. Jennifer Den and Eric Mcnamara make advanced analytics feel grounded and deeply relevant to the business world. Every assignment felt like a simulation of challenges I once tackled at Zomato but with the added edge of global context and academic depth.

From Analyst to Global Mentor

A proud highlight of my journey so far? Working part-time as a Global Student Experience Assistant with TUS.  I got the opportunity to apply my analytics mindset to real operational challenges. One of the highlights was when I automated a recurring reporting task for the Global Office — something that used to take 2–3 hours manually now runs in just a few seconds with a script I built. Grateful to Greg, Fiona, and Amy for trusting me with such a critical piece of work and giving me the freedom to experiment and deliver real impact.

Of course, beyond the backend work, I also got to support incoming students helping them navigate housing options, understand cultural differences, and settle into life in Limerick and it feels good to be that “go-to” guy for students who are where I was just a few months ago.

What Sets TUS Apart (for Someone Like Me)

It’s the ecosystem.

  • You’re not spoon-fed,  you’re empowered.
  • You’re not just networking, you’re collaborating.
  • You’re not treated like a fresher, you’re valued for your past experience.

And outside the classroom? Ireland has been kind. From Ceilí nights that confused my feet, to Sunday coffee runs to Chill the Beans, to late-night thesis crunching sessions with fellow students it’s been a journey of reinvention, not just relocation.

My Message to Working Professionals

If you’re someone with 5–7 years of experience wondering whether a Master’s abroad is “worth it”  I’ll say this: It’s not just worth it, It’s redefining.

You’ll gain clarity. You’ll gain credibility. Most importantly, you’ll gain global confidence. Learn more about the programme here: https://tus.ie/courses/msc-business-analytics/

And if you land up at TUS and see a guy in the library debugging a python code with his hoodie up and protein shake in hand that’s probably me 🙂
