Hello! I’m Josephine Jesila, currently pursuing a Master’s in Software Engineering at TUS. My love for technology started in my school days, where I was always fascinated by how computers and technology can transform the world. That passion led me to pursue a Bachelor’s in Computer Science Engineering, and I knew I wanted to take it further by doing a Master’s. I’m incredibly proud to say that I am the first person in my family to study abroad. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I wanted to challenge myself, step out of my comfort zone, and explore new opportunities to grow personally and professionally.
Why Ireland? Why TUS?
Ireland, with its stunning landscapes, warm-hearted people, and rich culture, felt like the perfect destination for me. As an English-speaking country, it’s also incredibly welcoming for international students. When I researched universities, TUS stood out for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural respect. TUS isn’t just a university – it’s a community. It’s a place where students from all backgrounds are celebrated, and I felt that from the very beginning.

Finding a Home Away from Home
One of the things that truly made me feel at home at TUS was how they embrace cultural diversity. As an Indian student, I never imagined I would get to celebrate Diwali or Holi in a foreign country – but TUS made it happen! And it wasn’t just my culture; I also had the chance to experience festivals from other countries, opening my eyes to new traditions and ways of life.

on campus
Academically, my time at TUS has been a journey of growth and achievement. In my first semester, I was thrilled to be one of the class toppers with 84.25%. One of the highlights of my experience was winning the Best Poster Award at the TUS Expo – a moment that filled me with pride and showed me the value of hard work and creativity.
But the journey wasn’t always smooth. The initial days were challenging: I was in a new country, surrounded by new people, and adjusting to a new culture. I often felt overwhelmed, but thanks to the supportive professors, my classmates, and friends at TUS, I found the courage to keep going. The professors at TUS are more than teachers, they are mentors who are always ready to help, listen, and share their knowledge. I learnt to ask questions – lots of them! That helped me gain more insights, deepen my understanding, and build the confidence I needed.

I’m also deeply thankful for my sister’s family in Ireland, who were my rock during difficult times. Their love and guidance gave me the strength to navigate the challenges of living abroad.
Discovering My Strength
My time at TUS has been a journey of self-discovery and growth. Through the challenges, new experiences, and achievements, I’ve realised that I am capable of so much more than I ever imagined. TUS has helped me see the strength within myself, teaching me that I am resilient, determined, and ready to take on the world.
Today, I can proudly say:
I am a strong, bold woman, ready to embrace every opportunity and face whatever comes my way with confidence and courage.
This journey has not just been about academic learning but about becoming the best version of myself, and for that, I am truly grateful.

My Advice to Future Students

Ask questions – lots of them! Your professors are friendly, approachable, and ready to help. Learn from their experience – it will make a world of difference.
Step out of your comfort zone. Try new things, make friends from different cultures, and embrace every opportunity. Believe in yourself, even when it’s hard.
You’re stronger than you think. Cherish the journey. The challenges will make you stronger, and the memories will last a lifetime.
To all international students: Be patient with yourself, explore the beauty of Ireland, and know that the TUS community will make you feel right at home.

A Journey Beyond Borders
Looking back, I’m filled with gratitude for the friends I’ve made, the professors who guided me, and the memories I’ll cherish forever. My sister’s family has been my anchor, and I’m so thankful for their unwavering support.
TUS has given me more than just a degree – it’s given me a home, a community, and the courage to chase my dreams.
As I look to the future, I’m excited to step into the world of technology, using the skills and confidence I’ve gained to make a meaningful impact. My dream is to inspire other young women to believe in themselves and pursue their passions in tech, because if I can do it, so can they.
So, here’s my message to you: Take the leap. Ask questions. Be bold. Believe in yourself. The world is full of possibilities – go out there and make them yours.
