Brian Redmond – NISO Graduate

Name: Brian Redmond

Course: Safety, Health and Welfare at Work – NISO Certificate

Having spent 15 years working as an electrician and telecoms technician, I decided that I wanted to take my career in a different direction. I have always had a keen interest in health and safety, so when the Flexible Learning brochure for TUS Midlands came through the door, the NISO Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety jumped off the page. I did my research and contacted the admin staff of the university for more information. They could not have been more helpful.

The 13-week course was very well structured. Each week covers a different aspect of health and safety. We were provided with two booklets. One was a book of slides, and the other was a book of course notes. With 1 assignment and a final exam, the pace of the course was excellent.

The lecturers we had come from different backgrounds within the health and safety industry, so they were able to relate the course material with real world scenarios for the students. They ensured that we all had a good understanding of the course by keeping us engaged throughout the 13 weeks with a friendly approachable way of teaching.

This NISO course is an excellent introduction into health and safety, and acts as a feeder into the Level 7 BSc in Environmental Health and Safety Management which I am now taking part in.
