Course Overview

The Master of Business in Innovation and Sustainable Business Strategy is a one year, Level 9, full-time postgraduate programme designed for graduates who want to drive innovation, sustainability, and strategic transformation in all types of organisations. This Master’s programme equips students with the strategic, technological, and leadership capabilities needed to navigate complex business environments and lead responsible, future-focused growth.

Blending cutting-edge business theory with applied projects, consultancy work and real-world case studies, the programme develops advanced skills in strategy, leadership, change management, sustainability, innovation, responsible business and critical analysis in research. Students learn to analyse global trends, design sustainable business models, and implement solutions that create commercial, social and environmental value.

Over one full-time academic year (90 credits, 3 semesters), students explore cutting-edge areas such as innovation frameworks, business model innovation, strategic marketing, sustainable value creation, strategic leadership. digital business transformation and research methodology.

What are the entry requirements?

Students with a minimum of a 2.2 Honours Bachelor’s Degree (Level 8) in Business or a related discipline are eligible to apply

Or

A minimum 2.2 honours bachelor degree (Level 8) in a non-business discipline with considerable experience and/or ability, evidenced by an RPL portfolio of prior experience and learning

Or

Equivalent qualifications. International students must evidence a proficiency in English language. A minimum IELTS 6.5 or equivalent internationally recognised English test result is required. An interview may form part of the selection process.

Course Modules

  • Leading Strategic Change

    Explores the theories, models, and processes that underpin successful organisational change. Students analyse why change efforts fail, examine resistance and readiness dynamics, and learn how to design, communicate, and implement transformation initiatives. The module develops practical leadership skills for guiding teams through uncertainty, transition, and strategic renewal.

  • Strategic Marketing Management

    Equips emerging business leaders with the skills to integrate customer insight, innovation, and sustainability into strategic decisions. Using applied frameworks and contemporary case studies, students learn how marketing strategy can deliver purpose-driven growth and lasting competitive advantage.

  • Applied Innovation

    Introduces students to creative thinking, design thinking and innovation methodologies. Students apply innovation frameworks to real-world business challenges in the social enterprise sector. This module strengthens confidence in experimentation, problem-solving and innovation leadership.

  • Business Model Development

    Explores how organisations create, deliver and capture value in a competitive environment. Students assess existing business models, examine disruptive trends and work with external partners to develop innovative, sustainable models. The focus is on applying knowledge of value propositions, strategic thinking and business model design to redesign or optimise real business opportunities.

  • Strategic Information Management and Digital Strategy

    Builds digital and analytical skills needed to lead in data-driven organisations. Students learn how information systems support strategic decision-making, sustainability reporting, digital transformation, and operational efficiency. Topics include analytics, data visualisation, digital tools and the managerial implications of technologies such as AI and machine learning.

  • Business Strategy for a Sustainable World

    Examines how organisations can adopt sustainable strategies that align with the UN SDGs and long-term value creation. Students explore sustainable development, ESG integration, sustainability frameworks, and responsible strategic decision-making.

  • Personal and Professional Development

    Focuses on building leadership presence, communication capability, self-awareness, teamwork and career readiness. Students develop emotional intelligence, presentation skills, reflective practice and professional identity through workshops, coaching and feedback.

  • Research Methods

    This module provides the methodological foundation for designing, critiquing, and implementing rigorous business research. Students learn quantitative and qualitative methods, research ethics, data analysis, literature review techniques, and how to formulate research questions into a coherent research proposal that supports their dissertation or research project.

  • Research Project

    The research project is a substantial independent study (18,000 words) that builds on a research proposal developed in the Research Methods module while also integrating the knowledge and skills gained throughout the programme. Students investigate a contemporary issue in strategy, innovation, sustainability, or leadership. The project develops advanced analytical and critical thinking abilities, as well as research presentation and communication skills.
