Course Overview

The aim of the Masters of Arts in Financial Management is to provide an educational experience that enables participants to achieve an integrated understanding of the operation and strategy of Financial Management, and to develop appropriate intellectual and personal skills. Specifically the programme is designed to offer participants the opportunity to gain a detailed knowledge of the underpinning theory and effective practice of Financial Management which will be of particular benefit in a range of management and leadership roles as well as in specialised Financial Management roles.

On successful completion of the programme, participants will have demonstrated the competencies necessary to:

  • Adopt analytical, systematic approaches toward problem solving and decision making, while simultaneously displaying an appropriate awareness and understanding of the sensitivities involved in the context of organisational dynamics;
  • Demonstrate personal qualities of empathy, leadership, team-working;
  • Manage their own learning and development, and evaluate their own experience through a reflective approach towards the impact of the programme on their lives;
  • Be catalysts of change within their employing organisations, as a result of the adoption of creative and innovative approaches to opportunities and threats.

The Masters of Arts in Financial Management (90 ECTs) is a two (2) year programme. You must have successfully completed Year 1 of the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management.

    Year 2 – M.A

    • Dissertation Module Aim The dissertation will be strategic in nature and consist of 14,000 – 15,000 words approximately, excluding appendices. As the capstone component of the programme, this element will help integrate the curriculum content and learning and, in the process, it represents a significant element of the overall work leading to the qualification. The dissertation will draw on analytical and evaluative competences based upon knowledge and skills developed during the programme. The exercise also provides an opportunity for students to develop their interests in a particular area and to demonstrate an ability to undertake individual research. Learning Outcomes 
      1. Demonstrate the in-depth multidisciplinary knowledge and skills required to undertake a major project based upon independent academic research. 
      2. Critically evaluate the published research in their chosen area and display the capability for self-directed learning.
      3. Research and Synthesise information and data in a rigorous, scientific and ethical manner. 
      4. Utilise critical thinking and analytical skills. 
      5. Synthesise a conclusive, coherent, literate document, strongly supported by evidence and a convincing analysis of findings that contributes to the body of knowledge in the general area focused upon. 
      6. Through a critical lens construct and execute ethically correct research methodology.
  • Minimum Entry Requirements

    Prospective students must have successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management, Year 1, to be eligible for this stage of the Masters programme.

    In line with University policies, non-native English speakers are required to have an IELTS level of 6.5 or higher. 

  • This programme will be delivered online though our virtual learning environment.

  • Each 10-credit module normally equates to approximately 200 total learning hours. Total learning hours include the time spent in class, such as lectures, tutorials, and practical elements, as well as time spent working independently outside of college.

    The balance between these varies by discipline and level of study, and learners should be aware that workload will increase at particular times, especially when assignments are due.

  • The programme is assessed through the students completed Dissertation.

  • €2,500
