Course Overview

This programme is designed for Post Primary, Primary and Further Education educational staff who aspire to leadership positions.

The aim of the programme is to provide for the development of the knowledge, understanding, and skills required for effective leadership in schools and centres of education. Grounded in the concept of reflective practice (Schön, 1983), the programme emphasises interactive engagement with relevant leadership and management theory and the application of this theory to professional practice within a reflective context. The programme seeks to enable learners to understand organisational and management structures, critically engage with core leadership theories, and address the challenges associated with managing and implementing educational change. It aims to build learners’ capacity in strategic planning, communication, team building, and conflict management, while developing an informed awareness of contemporary issues shaping educational leadership, including the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for policy and practice. Through applied, reflective, and practice-informed learning, the programme supports the development of confident, ethical, and effective educational leaders.
