This Heavy Vehicle Diagnostics module is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex systems in heavy-duty vehicles. This module focusses on various components and systems found in heavy vehicles, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, electrical systems, and onboard computers. This module is for those involved in the diagnosis, maintenance and managing heavy vehicles and trucks.

ABS; Function, Design, Operation, Testing & Diagnostics
EBS; Function, Design, Operation, Testing & Diagnostics
Air Suspension; Function Design Operation, Testing & Diagnostics
Engine Management Systems; Function, Design, Operation, Testing & Diagnostics
Exhaust Management Systems; Function, Design, Operation, Testing & Diagnostics
Reading Wiring Diagrams
Transmission and Drive Axle Systems
Reading Air brake Pneumatic Diagrams
Use of Diagnostic Tools
Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
Alternative fuel vehicles
Minimum entry requirements, Level 6 in light or heavy vehicle trades, level 6 in automobile engineering full time education and or required practical training accrued through industry experience which can be verified through RPL policy.

Once you have submitted your online application you will then receive an email acknowledgement with further instructions on RPL.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.
The programme will run for 12 weeks in a blended learning format (a mixture of online and on-campus delivery) as follows;
Online 1 evening per week, 3 hours per evening, Thursdays from 7-10pm
All online sessions will be recorded.
Two Saturday practical workshops during the semester at TUS Coonagh Campus, Limerick (dates to be confirmed) .
Please note that the practical workshops are mandatory to successfully complete the programme.
Start Date
There will be an online welcome session for all students on 9th September 2026.
Classes will commence on Thursday 17th September 2026.

Classes will take place online and at TUS Coonagh Campus, Limerick.
The proposed delivery schedule is subject to change.
Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.
Assessment Strategies may consist of the following:
1. Continuous Assessment and Feedback:
Implement continuous assessment methods such as quizzes, practical assessments, and diagnostic exercises, written exercises to evaluate students’ understanding and progress.
Provide timely feedback to students on their diagnostic performance, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement to support their learning journey through video, voice and typed records of diagnostics carried out.
2. Self-Directed Learning Resources:
Curate a range of self-directed learning resources including textbooks, online tutorials, diagnostic manuals, and instructional videos to supplement classroom instruction.
Encourage students to explore additional resources independently to deepen their understanding and enhance their diagnostic skills outside scheduled classes.
Practical Assessments, Open book Exam, Work-based project, written assignments, Practical Labs.

The full programme fee is €1,250
Skillnet funded student fee €500.00
