Course Overview

The Aim of the Programme, specifically designed for first responders and emergency personnel, is to provide the knowledge and application of Good Nutrition Practices to

  • Optimise Physical and Mental Performance
  • Support the Immune System
  • Enhance Resilience to Stress and
  • Maintain Long Term Health and Well-being

All of which are essential for effectively fulfilling demanding roles in emergency situations.

  • This module provides the learner with the scientific principles and practical applications of human nutrition for general good health and optimising physical performance. The sources, functions and digestion of macro and micro nutrients together with the concept of healthy eating will be explored. This module also provides learners with an understanding of hydration and the non-nutrient components (including alcohol) of food and drink and will explore the measurement of nutritional requirements and energy balance.

  • Candidates should possess a Level 6 qualification in a relevant area. Applicants who do not meet these requirements but who are aged 23 and over will be considered for entry by interview.

    ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

  • Modules are delivered over 12 weeks in an online learning format.

    • The module will be delivered in an online approach; over a period of 12 weeks as follows;

      Online classes 2 hours one evening per week from 7pm-9.30 pm (Gulf Standard Time)

     

  • Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.

  • 100% Continuous Assessment consisting of 3 (10%) MCQs (ongoing) and an Individual Project worth 70%

  • €1,000 ( €300 euro funding available to Middle East GAA Members)
