The programme focuses on supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, resilience, and mental health through ethically grounded, developmentally appropriate interventions.
Delivered fully online over one semester, the course blends theory with practical, experiential learning. Learners explore key theories of child development and therapeutic play while engaging with creative media such as art materials, sand, and clay. These methods are used not simply as activities, but as structured tools to help children communicate, process experiences, and build relationships in safe and supportive ways.
A strong emphasis is placed on reflective practice and evidence-informed decision-making. Participants are supported to critically assess children’s needs, design and implement suitable play-based interventions, and evaluate their impact within real-world professional contexts. Safeguarding, ethical practice, and inclusivity are embedded throughout, reflecting the responsibilities of those working in multidisciplinary environments.
This programme is particularly suited to practitioners in education, childcare, youth work, social care, and related fields who wish to enhance their professional judgement, self-awareness, and confidence in using therapeutic and creative play approaches as part of their everyday practice.

It integrates theory, research, and reflective professional practice, enabling learners to design, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate play-based interventions within ethical and safeguarding frameworks.
Through experiential and practice-focused learning, participants explore how creative media can be used therapeutically to support communication, emotional expression, relationship-building, and self-regulation.
