Course Overview

This two-year programme is aimed at staff currently working in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector who are looking to advance their careers by achieving a qualification at degree level. The programme aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to fulfill a variety of leadership roles within the Early Childhood Education and Care sector.

What are the entry requirements?

Applicants must hold a QQI Level 6 (or equivalent) qualification which is recognised by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) as meeting the criteria for ‘ECCE Room Leader (Standard Capitation)’. Applicants must currently be working in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector and continue to do so for the duration of the course.

Applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis and priority will be given to those who meet the minimum entry requirements.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a score of 5.5 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a score of 6.0 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

This is a Government Funded Programme. 

This programme is only open to successful applicants for SUSI funding for this particular programme 

Students will be required to pay a deposit of €500 on registration, which will  be returned to the student on approval of SUSI funding for the student and the student’s active engagement during the first  four(4) weeks of the programme.

  • Modules are to be delivered over one year in an blended learning format.

    – Year 1 in-person Induction at TUS Thurles Campus, Saturday 14th September, 9am-4pm

    -Monday & Wednesday evenings, 7-9pm (online) week commencing Monday 16th September

    -3 in-person Saturday classes for Semester 1 at TUS Moylish campus as follows;

    Saturday 5th October, 9am-4pm

    Saturday 9th November, 9am-4pm

    Saturday 30th November, 9am-4pm

    Semester 2 in-person Saturday classes (Dates/Campus Location TBC).

    The proposed delivery schedule is subject to change.

The assessment strategy for this programme includes both formative and summative elements including:written assignments, projects, portfolios, skills demonstration and examination.

Professional practice placement is a core requirement and can be completed in the participant’s existing place of employment.

 

It is recommended that you should complete the following steps 

  1. Check that you meet the SUSI qualifying criteria 
  2. Apply to SUSI for funding for your programme of choice
  3. Register your Interest with TUS for your programme of choice, to be completed on/before 26th Aug 2024 

Please note that this programme will NOT proceed during this academic year if there are not sufficient numbers of registered students. In advance of the proposed start date of this programme in Sept 2024, you will receive regular updates from TUS as to whether this programme will proceed in Sept 2024.
