TUS Race Equality Forums
TUS is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and diverse work and study environment that encourages a culture of respect and equality for all staff and students regardless of race or ethnicity. In June 2023, TUS signed the HEA Anti-Racism Principles for Irish Higher Education Institutions. To better understand our TUS campus culture in relation to race equality, the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Office are inviting staff and students to attend an externally facilitated, consultative Race Equality forum with Dr Jennifer Okeke who started her academic pursuit whilst living in direct provision. Forums will be held in person on all TUS campuses and will inform the development of a TUS Race Equality Action Plan and related policies and processes.
Forums will begin in January, with each forum lasting 2 hours. The first forum will be on Athlone Campus on the 19th January at 10am. Dates for other campuses are in the Forum link below.
Prior to attending the forum, participants will be asked to complete the “Let’s talk Race in Higher Education” a 30-minute training module. Please complete this expression of interest form to be involved in this initiative and further details will be sent to you in due course.
EOI for Race Equality ForumsHEA Race Equality Anti-Racism Principles
Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has signed the Higher
Education Authority (HEA)’s Race Equality Anti-Racism Principles for Higher
Education Institutions.
These principles were developed from stakeholder consultation, from the
findings of the Higher Education Authority National Race Equality survey and
subsequent first National Race Equality Report, which was published in October
2021. In signing these principles, TUS made a public commitment to address
incidences of racism and support race equality in structures and processes.
