Since taking on the role in the PASS programme, I’ve seen a significant improvement in my leadership and communication skills. The opportunity to mentor and support peers has not only been fulfilling but has also enhanced my understanding of the subject matter, making me a more confident and effective leader.

Veterinary Nursing PASS Leader

To sum up my PASS experience, the word I would use is insightful. This experience I think has shaped how I interact with groups of people in a leadership role. My skills have been improved significantly. My communication with my peers, lecturers, and students greatly improved. I felt much more comfortable voicing what I had to say and being able to take charge

Software Design Leader

Being a PASS leader formed bonds and relationships with the students as they trusted us and knew they could contact us regarding issues that they may faced or have faced during their first college year. It also improved my communication, teamwork, and leadership skills as I was able to manage a group of first years

Creative Media and Interactive Design Leader

The entire PASS experience was a delight to participate in. It not only provided avenues for personal development but also allowed me to make a positive impact on others. Through PASS, I forged connections with individuals whom I might never have had the opportunity to interact with otherwise. The experience pushed me beyond my comfort zone, representing a personal triumph

Athletic, Rehabilitation and Therapy Leader

I applied to be a PASS leader because I wanted to give the new first years the same experience I had: to help ease their nerves and let them know what to expect from university life. I developed my social and teamwork skills and got experience speaking in front of a group

Microbiology Leader

My overall experience of PASS has been overwhelmingly positive. I have gained and developed various skills and learned more about a programme that prior to nomination, I knew nothing about. I gained friendships and confidence. I feel an overall sense of achievement knowing that I’ve supported first year students in settling into third level

Critical and Contextual Studies Leader

I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a PASS leader, I think my first semester back was tough going, and it was such a relief to be able to come to a session and do something good. Our students were all very eager to learn and were very positive. Every session was tonnes of fun. I picked up many skills throughout the weeks. I learned to command attention and relate to my peers with ease, a skill that will be integral to my career as a veterinary professional. I learned to put people at ease, some of our students are very quiet, I learned to make them comfortable, to meet them where they are, and let them come out of their shells when they are ready.
