TUS to provide Free Maths Revision Seminars to Leaving Cert Students ahead of Exams
Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) is once again offering free maths revision seminars on its Moylish Campus, Limerick to leaving cert students ahead of their state examination this June.
The popular seminars, which are in the form of evening workshops, are aimed at helping leaving cert students reach their full potential in this core STEM subject, which is key to many career opportunities.
Last held in 2019, the workshops have returned due to popular demand.
TUS President, Professor Vincent Cunnane attributed the popularity of these workshops to the students’ understanding of the variety of career opportunities available in the Mid West Region to graduates with STEM qualifications.
TUS currently has the highest number of honours degree graduates in the country in employment nine months after graduation, and has as many as 96.4% engineering, manufacturing and construction graduates in employment, out-performing the national average by almost 11 per cent.
“Graduates in STEM disciplines help to drive innovation and enterprise, and have played a significant part in the growth in our economy, particularly in this region. We at TUS maintain that these subjects open up students to a range of exciting careers, and believe every student should have the best possible chance to excel in these subjects if they so wish,” he said.
“To this end, we are providing free maths workshops in our Moylish Campus again this year to assist students as they prepare for their leaving cert exams in Mathematics.”
The two-hour Mathematics workshops will focus on a particular strand of the Leaving Certificate curriculum and will run at a pace dictated by the students.
TUS’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering lecturers Patrick Browne and Owen McGrath, will conduct the free workshops over two evenings – Tuesday May 7 and Wednesday May 8, 2024 – from 7pm to 9pm.
The first workshop will focus on Strand 5 Section 2 (Calculus) from the Higher Level Maths curriculum. The second workshop will concentrate on ordinary level mathematics and focus on Strand 4 (Algebra).
Pre-booking is essential for all three workshops, as places are limited. Further information and booking details are available at TUS Leaving Certificate Mathematics Revision Seminar Series 2024 – TUS
