This Level 8 Higher Diploma programme (60 ECTS Credits) is designed to help new and existing managers (as well as those aspiring towards a management position) to develop insights and competence required to influence and empower individuals, teams and organisations.
Key Features:
• Level 8 Higher Diploma Programme (60 ECTS).
• Online/Blended flexible mode of delivery.
• An array of supports via our Virtual Learning Environment – Moodle platform will be available for all participants.
• Developed in partnership with the Midlands Regional Skills Manager and relevant industry partners.
• Personal and supportive approach to teaching and learning.
• Problem-focussed assignments will be used to challenge and expand the students’ knowledge, skills and competence.
• The programme addresses to a significant level all four key areas, which have been deemed by government as being of critical importance at this time: digital skills, transversal skills, management and leadership skills and the workplace of the future.
This module develops deep self‑awareness and reflective capacity essential for leadership. Learners explore emotional intelligence, leadership and followership styles, personality preferences, and learning styles. The module supports ongoing professional development through reflective writing, feedback integration, and the creation of a personal development plan.
Focusing on contemporary leadership theories and evidence‑based practice, this module examines how leadership behaviours influence teams, organisational culture, performance, and change. Learners analyse their own leadership strengths and development needs while applying leadership models to real workplace scenarios.
This module builds strategic thinking and execution capability. Learners engage with strategic analysis tools, explore organisational culture and networks, and examine the challenges of implementing strategy. Emphasis is placed on aligning resources, evaluating strategic options, and translating strategy into action within organisational contexts.
Centred on talent development across organisations, teams, and individuals, this module explores talent management practices, team development frameworks, coaching models, and effective feedback approaches. Learners gain practical experience in evaluating talent strategies and conducting structured development conversations.
The capstone consolidates learning from across the programme through an applied project. Working collaboratively, learners design and deliver a professional “masterclass” presentation on a leadership theme. Individually, they complete a reflective report that analyses their contribution, learning, and application of leadership practice.
This module explores how leaders build productive relationships with stakeholders. It covers performance management, continuous improvement, negotiation, conflict management, ethics, and equality, diversity and inclusion. Learners develop practical skills for managing stakeholder needs and navigating organisational dynamics.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants should possess an NFQ level 7 Ordinary Degree (or equivalent) in any discipline. Applicants may also be assessed for entry based on the recognition of prior learning.
This programme will be delivered online.
Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.
The programme is focussed on helping aspiring, new and existing leaders to grow and develop. We have had a considerable number of graduates who have progressed to management positions in their own and new organisations.
