Course Overview

This programme offers the opportunity to acquire the key business skills and knowledge required to have a successful career in industry, commerce or the public sector. You will gain a deep understanding of the functional areas of business and the factors that influence success. On graduation, you will be able to use your knowledge and skills for problem solving in a business context. You will also learn the importance of getting buy-in from key stakeholders. During this programme, students generally experience a marked improvement in their communication and interpersonal skills.
In year two of the Higher Certificate in Business you will have the opportunity to follow your areas of interest by selecting elective modules in areas such as Financial Accounting, Economics, Services Marketing, ECommerce or Insurance. No matter what route you choose, you will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the modern business world.
If you have an interest in business and the complex interplay between people, organisations and their environment, then this course is for you.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate

Grade O6 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be mathematics and a language (English or Irish).

QQI (FETAC)

Any QQI level 5 qualification is acceptable.

Holders of the Higher Certificate may apply to join the Bachelor of Business (Level 7) programme.

This course helps to prepare you for a career in areas such as general business, accounting, banking, insurance, marketing, management, administration, human resource management, retail services and computing.
